Grade 9 English Online Tutoring
Live online Grade 9 English classes. Descriptive and narrative writing, formal letters, articles, indirect speech and the tenses that carry marks on the paper.
مختصر جواب
Grade 9 English is the year writing becomes structured. Pakistan's National Curriculum sets descriptive and narrative writing, article and formal letter writing, all tenses, complex sentences and direct and indirect speech. Learning Loft teaches it online in groups of at most five, marking written work every session.

طلبہ کہاں اٹکتے ہیں
- Indirect speech — shifting tense, pronouns and time expressions all at once, and changing one of the three while forgetting the others.
- Gerunds, infinitives and participles — knowing which form follows which verb, and writing participle phrases that dangle away from their subject.
What changes from Grade 8
Writing stops being judged on whether it is correct and starts being judged on whether it does a job. A Grade 9 piece has a purpose and an audience, and a technically flawless answer that ignores both will not score well.
The grammar load rises at the same time. Gerunds, infinitives and participles, complex sentences with subordinate clauses, and the full tense system all arrive in a single year, and they arrive as things to use rather than things to name.
Indirect speech is where marks disappear
It is the most reliably mishandled item on the Grade 9 paper, and the reason is that three things have to change at once: the tense, the pronouns and the time expressions. Students change one, sometimes two, and the sentence reads almost right.
We drill it as a checklist rather than as a rule, because the failure is one of attention rather than understanding. A student who checks all three every time stops losing the marks within a few weeks.
- Shift the tense one step back
- Change the pronouns to match the new speaker
- Convert the time and place words — today becomes that day, here becomes there
- Check the sentence type: questions, orders, requests and advice each change differently
Formal letters and articles
Formal letter writing sits at Grade 9 in the national curriculum and is not repeated at Grade 10, which makes it easy to meet once and never revisit. It reappears in the examination regardless.
Article writing is the other new form, and it is the more useful of the two, because it teaches the thing every later piece of writing needs: an opening that states a position, a middle that supports it, and a close that does not restate the opening in different words.
Why the group is capped at five
English marks at this level are won and lost in extended writing, and there is no way to find out why a student is losing them without reading what they wrote. A tutor can read five students' work in a session; they cannot read thirty.
So every session includes written work that is marked and returned with a specific correction rather than a grade. A student told their conclusion is weak learns nothing; a student shown the sentence that should have been the conclusion learns something.

عام سوالات
What is in the Grade 9 English syllabus?
Descriptive and narrative writing, story writing, poetry, persuasive and informative writing including articles, formal letter writing, idioms and figures of speech, all tenses with gerunds, infinitives and participles, complex sentence structure, and direct and indirect speech.
When does precis writing start?
Grade 10, not Grade 9. In the national curriculum the precis outcomes sit at Grades 10 and 11. Grade 9's distinctive writing demand is the formal letter, which the curriculum places here and does not repeat the following year.
How do you teach English to students at different levels in one group?
By capping the group at five and setting written work individually. Reading and discussion are shared; the marking is not. Where a student's gap is wider than a group can absorb, we say so and recommend one-to-one rather than letting them sit quietly at the back.
Do you teach English literature as well as language?
At Grade 9 the two are not fully separate. Poetry, characterisation and narrative sit inside the language course and we teach them as part of it. Students on a separate GCSE or IGCSE literature specification are taught against that specification's set texts.
