13:00–21:00 Muscat time. The whole after-school and evening stretch is inside our teaching day, with no late-night sessions on either side.

Weekends

09:00–19:00 Muscat time, which suits longer revision sessions before the January and June examination windows.

Our time (Pakistan)

Oman uses a single IANA time zone, Asia/Muscat, at UTC+4, and observes no daylight saving. The one-hour gap to Pakistan is therefore fixed. Note that Omani examination windows are re-set annually by ministerial decision and can spill into early July, so we confirm dates each year rather than carrying forward last year's plan.

• Omani national curriculum set by the Ministry of Education — Arabic-medium, English compulsory from Grade 1, leading to the General Education Diploma
• British and Cambridge curriculum (Key Stages, IGCSE and A Level) in the private international sector, mainly in Muscat and Sohar
• Indian CBSE — 22 Indian community schools teaching more than 48,000 students from KG to Grade 12
• American curriculum (US high school diploma, often with Advanced Placement) at several private schools
• International Baccalaureate (PYP, MYP and Diploma) at a small number of premium and bilingual schools
• South Asian community schools serving the Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan populations, most of which sit CBSE or Cambridge examinations locally

One hour behind, and nothing crosses midnight

Oman is on Gulf Standard Time, UTC+4, in a single nationwide zone, and it does not change its clocks. Subtract one hour from our timetable for local time in Muscat, Sohar, Salalah or Nizwa.

Our latest weekday finish, 22:00 PKT, is 21:00 in Muscat. That is the practical reason Oman is a straightforward market for us: there is no slot on our timetable that would put an Omani student in a class after bedtime.

Three systems in one country

The Omani national curriculum is Arabic-medium and leads to the General Education Diploma, with English compulsory from Grade 1. Alongside it sits a British and Cambridge private sector concentrated in Muscat and Sohar, and the largest expatriate system of all — 22 Indian community schools running CBSE for more than 48,000 students.

Our teaching is in English, so we work with the Cambridge, British and CBSE routes and with the English-language demands of the national curriculum. We do not teach the Arabic-medium subjects, and we say so at enquiry rather than after enrolment.

Examination windows are re-set every year

This is the scheduling fact worth knowing about Oman. Examination windows for government and private schools are fixed annually by ministerial decision and can move materially between years — Ministerial Resolution 253/2024 placed the Grades 5–11 second-semester examinations at 11 June to 10 July 2025, which runs later than most Gulf systems.

A revision plan copied from the previous year will therefore be out by weeks rather than days. We check the current year's decision before setting a schedule, and we recommend families do the same with their school.

Two semesters, and a three-term exception

Government and most private schools open in late August or early September and finish in late June, running on two semesters with a mid-year break of roughly two weeks around late December and early January. British-curriculum private schools mostly run three terms instead, on a calendar closer to the UK.

In a family with children at both a national-curriculum school and a British-curriculum one — which is common in Muscat — that means two different holiday patterns in the same house. We schedule siblings separately rather than assuming a shared timetable.

How we work with families in Oman

Cambridge IGCSE and GCSE Mathematics run as 90-minute sessions, two to four a week, in groups of no more than four. International-curriculum support runs one-to-one at 60 minutes, two to five times a week, which is the format CBSE and IB students usually need.

For IGCSE students the first question is the route. Cambridge 0580 Core is capped at grade C, and 0607 International Mathematics is a different qualification again — three components, a required graphic display calculator, and a fifth of the marks from investigation. We confirm the syllabus code before planning anything.
