The short answer
Grade 10 is the examination year: SSC Part II, or the final year of a GCSE or IGCSE course. The work shifts from learning content to performing it under time. Learning Loft teaches mathematics, science and English in 60 to 90-minute sessions, in groups of at most five.
The work is a different kind of work
By Grade 10 most of the content has been met at least once. What decides the grade is whether a student can produce it accurately, in order, under time, on a paper they have not seen.
That is a separate skill from understanding, and it is trained separately — full papers under real timing, then a review of where the minutes went rather than only where the marks went.
Written method is where the marks are
Above roughly a grade 5, the majority of marks are not for executing a taught procedure. Edexcel and AQA both weight 60% of the Higher paper towards reasoning, interpretation and problem-solving rather than standard technique.
That is why our groups cap at five. A tutor can watch five students' written reasoning in a session; they cannot watch thirty, and marking only final answers will not find the reason a student keeps losing method marks.
The last six weeks
New material should stop. The final stretch is timed papers, the topics that went worst in them, and sleep — in that order.
Students who are still meeting new topics in the last fortnight are usually doing so because something was left too long, and the honest fix for that is to start earlier next time rather than to cram harder now.

Common questions
When should Grade 10 exam preparation start?
Structured preparation should be running through the whole year, with the final six weeks reserved for timed past papers and the weakest topics from them. New content in the last fortnight is a sign something was left too long.
How many sessions a week does an exam year need?
Four to six, at 60 to 90 minutes. The longer sessions matter because papers are 90 minutes and pacing has to be practised at full length rather than in fragments.
Why do small groups matter more in Grade 10?
Because most of the available marks are for written reasoning rather than final answers. A tutor has to read what each student wrote to find why marks are being lost, and that is only possible in a group small enough to read everyone's working every session.
Can you help with SSC, GCSE and IGCSE in the same year group?
Yes, but taught to the specification the student is entered for. The content overlaps; the papers, timings and the way method marks are awarded do not, and practising against the wrong board's papers wastes the most valuable preparation there is.
