Live online classes for Grade 1, typically age 6. Numbers to 100, phonics and early reading, first science enquiry and Nazra Quran, in groups of four.
The short answer
Grade 1 is where school habits are formed rather than where content is covered. Learning Loft teaches it online in groups of at most four, 45 minutes at a time, across mathematics, science, English and Quran — the year a child learns that being stuck is normal and survivable.
What Grade 1 is actually for
The mathematics of Grade 1 — counting, number bonds, reading and writing numbers to 100 — is not difficult in itself. What is difficult is doing it in a room with other children, on request, when you would rather not.
So the year's real work is habit: sitting down to a task, saying when something does not make sense, and finding out that admitting it produces help rather than trouble. A child who learns that in Grade 1 is easier to teach for the next nine years.
The four subjects
Mathematics, science, English and Quran. Science at this stage is observation rather than content — noticing, sorting, describing — and English is phonics and the beginnings of reading for meaning.
Quran is taught as Nazra, starting from letter recognition and correct pronunciation. It is taught with the same patience as everything else and never as rote drilling against a clock.
Whether six is too young for online classes
Often, yes — and we say so. A six-year-old who cannot yet sit at a screen without an adult beside them will get more from in-person teaching, and we would rather tell a family that at the demo than take the fee.
Where it does work is when a parent is nearby for the first few weeks, the group is genuinely small, and sessions stay short. That is why Grade 1 groups cap at four and sessions at 45 minutes.

Common questions
Is Grade 1 too young for online tutoring?
Sometimes. A child who can sit with an adult nearby for 45 minutes usually does well in a group of four. A child who cannot yet do that will get more from in-person teaching, and we will say so after the free demo rather than take the booking.
How long is a Grade 1 class?
45 minutes, three or four times a week. That is close to the limit of sustained attention at this age, and stretching it produces a tired child rather than more learning.
What maths should a Grade 1 student know by the end of the year?
Counting, reading and writing numbers to 100, number bonds within 20, simple addition and subtraction, and recognising basic shapes. The national curricula of Pakistan, Cambridge Primary and England agree closely at this stage.
