The 2 hours 14 minutes, module by module
Both sections are split into two modules of equal length, and each module is a sealed unit: the timer runs to zero before the next one opens. Reading and Writing comes first, then the break, then Math.
That is 134 minutes of testing and 144 minutes from the first question to the last. There is no way to borrow time from one module for another, and no way to bank time you finish early — a module that ends with five minutes spare ends with five minutes spent.
Everything on the digital SAT is timed inside Bluebook, so the clock on the wall is irrelevant and the countdown on your own screen is the only one that governs anything.

The morning is much longer than the test
College Board's published schedule has students checking in at 07:45, the doors closing at 08:00 and testing starting between 08:15 and 08:30. Nothing goes wrong in that half hour — it is seating, ID checking and getting every device into the exam in Bluebook.
Work forwards from an 08:15 start and 144 minutes of test lands you at about 10:40; from 08:30 it is nearer 10:55. College Board says a standard-time student will likely be done before noon, and in practice most rooms finish around 10:45 to 11:00.
The number that matters for the family is not 2 hours 14 minutes. It is that a student leaving home at 07:00 will be collected at 11:00, tired, having concentrated hard for two straight hours.
What approved accommodations do to the finish time
Extended time is granted per student, not per test date, and it lengthens each module rather than adding a block at the end. College Board's own guidance is that accommodated students may finish as late as 13:00 to 13:15.
That difference is worth planning for properly. A student with time and one-half is in the building for well over five hours, which changes what they should eat beforehand and what they should have with them for the break.
Approval has to be in place before you register for a date. It is not something to sort out in the week before the test, and it is the single most common reason a family finds itself registering for a later date than it planned.
Planning the Saturday from Lahore, Karachi or Islamabad
The SAT is a Saturday morning test, and College Board states plainly that Sunday testing is not available in Pakistan or India. If the Saturday is impossible, the answer is a different test date, not a different day of the same weekend.
Students bring their own laptop or tablet with Bluebook installed and exam setup already completed, or borrow a device from College Board — and the borrowing request runs on its own, earlier deadline. A device that has never opened Bluebook before test morning is the avoidable disaster.
If the centre is in another city, treat the travel as part of the exam. Arriving at 07:45 after a four-hour drive is not the same test as arriving at 07:45 from twenty minutes away.

Is the digital SAT shorter than the old paper SAT?
Yes, by a considerable margin. The paper SAT ran three hours of testing; the digital SAT runs 2 hours 14 minutes. The reduction comes from fewer questions and shorter reading passages rather than from rushing you — the seconds available per question went up, not down.
Why is the Math section longer than Reading and Writing?
Because its questions take longer to answer, not because there are more of them. Math has fewer questions than Reading and Writing but gets 70 minutes against 64. The design intent is that a question in either section should feel similarly paced despite the different work involved.
Does the break count towards my testing time?
No. The 10 minutes sit between the two sections and are not deducted from any module. You cannot take a break inside a module, and if you leave the room mid-module the timer keeps running, so plan around the one scheduled break rather than hoping for another.
Can I leave as soon as I finish the last module?
You leave when the room is dismissed, not when your own screen finishes. Modules end together, and the proctor closes the session for the room. Tell whoever is collecting you to plan for around 11:00 rather than for the exact minute your last question is answered.
