Grade 7 Geography Tutoring

Live online Grade 7 geography in groups of five: time zones, climate change and agriculture, urbanisation, infrastructure, resources, the World Bank, IMF and GIS.

La respuesta corta

Grade 7 geography in Pakistan leans towards people and resources. The National Curriculum covers weather, climate and natural vegetation, time zones and the international date line, climate change and agriculture, land supply and population, urbanisation and land use, infrastructure, conserving resources, changing landforms, the World Bank and IMF, and GIS.

Lo que cubrimos en Geografía de 7º curso

  • Weather, climate and natural vegetation
  • Time zones and the international date line
  • Climate change and excessive agriculture
  • Economic activities: agriculture, land supply and population
  • Population increase, urbanisation and excess land use
  • Urban and rural infrastructure compared
  • Utilising and conserving resources
  • Why landforms change: natural processes and pollution
  • Global economic institutions: the World Bank and the IMF
  • Maps, globes, aerial photographs, satellite images, GPS and GIS

Al final del año

  • Explain how plate movement causes earthquakes and volcanic eruptions and how hazards are managed.
  • Compare the human and physical geography of one region with another.
  • Use development indicators to describe and explain global inequality.

Dónde se atascan los alumnos

  • Mixing up constructive, destructive and conservative plate margins and the hazards each produces.
  • Describing a landform without explaining the process that formed it.

A year weighted towards people

Where Grade 6 was largely physical, the Pakistani Grade 7 course is dominated by human and environmental geography: land supply against population, urbanisation, rural and urban infrastructure, and how resources are used or conserved.

It also introduces the global scale, with the World Bank and the IMF named directly. Students find these units easier to engage with and harder to write about, because the answers require weighing costs against benefits rather than recalling a process.

Describing a landform is not explaining it

'The valley is deep and steep-sided' is a description. The question almost always asks how it came to be that way, and the answer needs a process operating over time — which is the single biggest step up from Grade 6.

This is where geography stops rewarding memory and starts rewarding chains of reasoning. It is also where students who were strong at map skills sometimes slip, because the new demand is written explanation rather than accurate reading.

Three plate margins, three sets of consequences

Constructive, destructive and conservative margins produce different hazards, and students who memorise the three names without the mechanism end up assigning volcanoes to all of them. Pakistan sits close enough to an active boundary for this to be more than an abstract topic.

The two routes reach it at different points — tectonics is a Key Stage 3 unit for this band, while the Pakistani course arrives at earthquakes in Grade 8. The confusion is identical either way, and drawing the movement before naming it is what fixes it: plates pulling apart, pushing together or sliding past each other each give a predictable result.

Key Stage 3 geography, for international students

A British-curriculum school teaches this band from Key Stage 3, which names geological timescales and plate tectonics, rocks, weathering and soils among its physical geography, and population, urbanisation, international development and the four sectors of economic activity among its human geography.

None of that is allocated to a year group by statute. The order below follows Oak National Academy's published Key Stage 3 sequence, so a school may well teach these units a year earlier or later — worth checking before assuming a student has already met tectonics.

  • Globalisation, and economic activity across the four sectors
  • Rocks, weathering and soils
  • Plate tectonics, geological timescales, earthquakes and volcanoes
  • Global inequalities and international development
  • Cities, urbanisation, population change and migration
  • A region in Africa — commonly Nigeria or the Democratic Republic of the Congo — plus GIS and data skills

Preguntas frecuentes

What geography topics are covered in Grade 7?

On the Pakistani route: weather, climate and vegetation, time zones and the international date line, climate change and agriculture, land supply and population, urbanisation and land use, urban and rural infrastructure, conserving resources, changing landforms, the World Bank and IMF, and GIS. Key Stage 3 adds plate tectonics and development for this band.

At Grade 7, do you teach the Pakistani or the British geography syllabus?

Whichever your child is enrolled in, established at the demo. The human geography overlaps closely between the two, so a student moving between them loses less than the different subject names suggest; the physical geography is sequenced differently and is worth checking.

What is the difference between the three plate margins?

At constructive margins plates move apart and new crust forms, at destructive margins one plate is forced under another, and at conservative margins they slide past each other. Earthquakes occur at all three; volcanoes are associated with constructive and destructive margins, not conservative ones.

Why does my child lose marks on questions about landforms?

Almost always because the answer describes the landform instead of explaining how it formed. Grade 7 questions ask for a process operating over time, and a description — however accurate — answers a question that was not asked.
