Canada runs six time zones and sits between about 8.5 and 12 hours behind Pakistan. Saskatchewan has never observed daylight saving and stays on UTC−6 year-round; Yukon has been on a fixed UTC−7 since 2020; and British Columbia has now adopted permanent daylight saving — 8 March 2026 was its final clock change, and from 1 November 2026 Vancouver and Victoria stay on UTC−7 all year, twelve hours behind Pakistan. A Canadian student's normal after-school window of roughly 16:00–20:00 local is about 01:00–07:00 PKT the next morning, which is entirely outside our published hours.

Our published hours do not work in Canada

This is the mirror image of the Australian problem, and we would rather state it than dress it up. Canada sits between roughly 8.5 and 12 hours behind Pakistan, so our teaching day lands in the Canadian early morning. In Toronto our 14:00–22:00 PKT block is 04:00–12:00. In Calgary and Vancouver it is 02:00–10:00.

A Canadian student's normal after-school window is about 16:00 to 20:00 local, which corresponds to roughly 01:00 to 07:00 PKT the following morning. There is no overlap with our published weekday schedule at all. Newfoundland and Atlantic Canada are the least-bad case, where an early-morning session before school is at least arithmetically possible; British Columbia and Alberta are unusable for weekday after-school classes on the standard timetable.

What we can honestly offer a Canadian family

Three things, and we would not claim a fourth. First, weekend mornings in the east: our weekend block ends at 20:00 PKT, which is 10:00 on a Saturday in Ontario, so the last two hours are genuinely bookable. Second, an early-morning session before school in Newfoundland and the Atlantic provinces, where the arithmetic works out at around 06:00 to 08:00 local.

Third, and for most Canadian families this is the real answer: hours opened outside the published block. A dedicated 02:00–05:00 PKT slot is 16:00–19:00 the previous afternoon in Toronto and 13:00–16:00 in Vancouver. That is a tutor working through the night in Lahore, so we schedule it deliberately, with named tutors who have agreed to that shift, rather than pretending it is part of the standard timetable.

What we will not do is sell a Vancouver family a 03:00 class and call it convenient. If none of the three options above works, we say so and decline the booking.

• Weekend mornings — 18:00–20:00 PKT is 08:00–10:00 Saturday and Sunday in Ontario and Quebec
• Before school — workable in Newfoundland and Atlantic Canada at roughly 06:00–08:00 local
• By arrangement — a dedicated overnight Pakistan block covering the Canadian after-school window
• Not offered — a standard published weekday slot for a school-attending student anywhere west of Halifax

Thirteen systems, not one

There is no Canadian national curriculum and no federal department of education. Each province and territory writes its own curriculum, sets its own assessments and issues its own graduation credential, which means the phrase Canadian curriculum does not describe anything a tutor can teach to.

The differences are substantial at the top end. Alberta runs Grade 12 diploma examinations worth 30% of the final mark, sat in January, April and June — the highest-stakes provincial exam in the country. Ontario runs no province-wide subject finals at all, only EQAO assessments and the Grade 10 literacy test. Quebec students finish at Secondary V and go to CEGEP rather than taking a Grade 12 year.

We ask which province before which grade. A Grade 12 student in Calgary and a Grade 12 student in Toronto are preparing for entirely different things.

British Columbia has stopped changing its clocks

BC has adopted permanent daylight saving. 8 March 2026 was its final clock change, and on 1 November 2026 the clocks did not go back — so Vancouver, Victoria and most of the province now stay on UTC−7 all year and no longer drop to UTC−8.

For us that removes a seasonal variation rather than fixing the underlying problem: BC is now a flat twelve hours behind Pakistan, every day of the year. It does at least mean a BC family's arranged slot never needs re-checking, which is more than can be said for Ontario.

How we work with Canadian families

Most of our Canadian work is SAT preparation for students applying to US universities, and mathematics support through our international-curriculum programme, one-to-one. Both survive a weekend-weighted schedule better than a school-subject course that needs to track a teacher week by week.

The free demo class is booked at the exact time a family would attend every week — not at a convenient one-off. If that slot proves unsustainable after a month, we would rather move it or end it than let attendance quietly decay.
