South Africa Standard Time is UTC+2 across the entire country — Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and Gqeberha — with no daylight saving and no internal time zones. Pakistan does not change its clocks either, so the three-hour gap is permanent. This is the only market we teach into where our full published window sits inside the local school-day-to-early-evening period at both ends.

The one market where our whole timetable fits

South Africa is three hours behind Pakistan on a single nationwide zone, with no daylight saving anywhere in the country and none in Pakistan either. Our full weekday block of 14:00–22:00 PKT is 11:00–19:00 SAST, and our weekend block is 07:00–17:00.

Public schools generally finish between 13:30 and 14:30 SAST. That means the entire South African after-school window sits inside our teaching day, and it does so without a late night for either the student or the tutor — a 19:00 SAST class is 22:00 in Lahore, our normal finishing time.

There is no seasonal re-check, no crossing of midnight, and no part of our published timetable that a South African family has to be warned away from. That is not true of any other market on this site.

CAPS and IEB are the same qualification, different papers

Both routes lead to the identical National Senior Certificate and to the same university-entrance statuses — Bachelor, Diploma and Higher Certificate passes. What differs is who sets the papers. The Department of Basic Education examines the CAPS route; the Independent Examinations Board examines over 250 mostly independent schools on the same curriculum content.

The IEB papers are known for a more application- and reasoning-heavy style. A student who has drilled procedure will feel that difference in the exam room even though the syllabus content is the same, which is why we ask which assessment body a school uses before choosing past papers.

SACAI is the third accredited body, used mainly by home-schoolers and distance learners. All three are quality-assured by Umalusi, so the certificate carries the same weight whichever route produced it.

A southern-hemisphere calendar, and two exam seasons

The school year runs January to early December across four terms and 200 teaching days — in 2026, from 14 January to 9 December. That is the opposite way round from the UK and the Gulf, so a South African Grade 12's final push falls in the second half of the calendar year rather than the first.

The matric papers are written in October and November, with results released in mid-January. But there is a second season: the Senior Certificate rewrite runs as a May–June supplementary sitting, used by candidates improving or completing their matric. Demand for tutoring in South Africa therefore has two peaks rather than one, and the first-half-of-year peak is the one most providers ignore.

Where the demand actually concentrates

Grades 10 to 12, in mathematics, physical sciences, accounting and English. That is where large class sizes and matric pressure meet, and it is where almost all of our South African enrolments sit.

We do not publish a figure for the size of the South African tutoring market, because there is no official Statistics South Africa or Department of Basic Education measurement of it. Numbers circulating online trace back to tutoring vendors rather than to an authoritative source, and we would rather leave a gap than quote one.

How we work with South African families

Mathematics for Grades 9 and 10 runs through our secondary programme, 60 to 90 minutes, four to six times a week; senior support and Cambridge IGCSE work run through the international-curriculum programme, one-to-one at 60 minutes.

Every student sits a weekly assessment and the result goes to the parent. In a market where the matric result is the whole point of Grade 12, a weekly external check is the difference between finding a gap in March and finding it in October.
